
Men's Tennis Edges Penn State, 4-3

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's tennis team won its fourth straight match Saturday afternoon, edging Penn State, 4-3, in State College, Pa. NU ups its record to 12-7 overall and, more importantly, 6-3 in Big Ten competition.
The `Cats started strong, picking up two of three in the doubles portion of the match to gain the first point. Joost Hol and Ryan Edlefsen won at No. 2 (8-5), while Josh Axler and Brad Erickson also earned an 8-5 decision at No. 3.
In singles action, No. 2 Jackie Jenkins, No. 4 Edlefsen and No. 5 Axler won their matches in straight sets. With Joost Hol out of the singles lineup, Russell Bennett stepped in at No. 6 and lost to Brad Nudell (6-3, 6-4). Erickson lost a tough match at No. 1, falling in a third-set tiebreaker (4-6, 7-5, 7-6).
Northwestern will conclude the regular season with a final match at Ohio State tomorrow. Match time is set for 11 a.m. cst. The Buckeyes lost to Illinois this afternoon, so a Wildcat win tomorrow will give NU a share of second place in the Big Ten with OSU.
