EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern softball team fell to No. 19 Florida State, 8-2, at the Seminole Tournament in Tallahassee, Fla., on Sunday. The Wildcats fall to 6-7 overall while the Seminoles improve to 21-3.

The Wildcats scored the first run of the game in the third inning when freshman Carri Leto (El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla) singled to bring home Rane Gunderson (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka). Florida State answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Seminoles then scored one run in the fifth inning and four more in the sixth inning to seal the victory. NU's other run came in the sixth inning when Gretchen Barnes (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) singled to bring home Leto.

Pitcher Lauren Schwendimann (Tustin, Calif./Foothill) made her first appearance on the mound this season. In three-plus innings, Schwendimann gave up three runs on four hits and struck out three. Brie Brown (Nashville, Tenn./Harputh Hall) relieved Schwendimann and gave up five runs on seven hits, striking out three.

The Wildcats will be back in action during their spring break trip to California. They face Long Beach State on March 19, then travel to Fullerton, Calif., to face Washington and Cal. State-Fullerton on March 20. The `Cats finish their trip at Cal. State-Northridge on March 22.
