Softball Falls to No. 12 Washington, 8-2

EVANSTON, Ill. -
The Northwestern softball team lost to No. 12 Washington, 8-2, on Tuesday in Fullerton, Calif. After taking an early 2-0 lead, the `Cats couldn't bring in more runs to hang with the Huskies.
In the first inning, Erin Jancic (Houston, Texas/Alief Elsik) hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Carri Leto (El Cajon, Calif./Valhalla) and Brett Nakabayashi (Ivrine, Calif./Irvine) to third and second base, respectively. Alyson Schulz (San Diego, Calif./Serra) then doubled to score Leto and Nakabayashi.
Washington rallied in the bottom of the third inning with three runs and scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth. The Huskies sealed the win with four more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
For the Wildcats, Leto went 2-for-4 at the plate with one run and one stolen base. Schulz went 1-for-2 with two RBI and Nakabayashi, Gretchen Barnes (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) and Andria Caruthers (Inglewood, Calif./Westchester) each went 1-for-3. Lauren Schwendimann (Tustin, Calif./Foothill) picked up her second loss of the season, pitching 5.1 innings and striking out seven while allowing eight hits and six runs.
The Wildcats fall to 6-10 overall and have lost seven straight games.
