Baseball Washed Away by Pacific, 3-2

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern baseball team dropped the first of five games at the Rawlings/Oakland Athletics Spring Training Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz., 3-2 to Pacific. Junior Zach Schara threw eight strong innings before giving way to J.J. Standring. Schara gave up four hits, two runs, both earned, walked one and struck out five. Two of the four hits were solo home runs by the Tigers.
Standring came in the ninth throwing one-third of an inning giving up two hits and the game-winning run.
Pacific pitcher, D.J. Houlton held the `Cats in check offensively as he threw a complete game five-hitter.
Sophomore shortstop Eric Roeder accounted for all the `Cats runs with a two-run blast in the fourth. David Gresky and Rob Bello had two hits each.
Northwestern is back in action Friday against the University of Kansas at 10 a.m.
