Evanston, Ill. - Northwestern men's soccer dropped its final home game of the year Thursday to conference opponent Wisconsin, 5-2, at Lakeside Field. The Wildcats were on the losing end of a record day for the Badgers as Aaron Lauber scored four goals, tying the Wisconsin record for goals in a game. Lauber's hat trick was also a career first for the fifth-year senior.
Lauber first goal came in the eighth minute off a corner kick by Nick Van Sicklen. Wildcat senior Daniel Doman (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day), playing in his final home game, tied the game in the 16th minute in the same fashion, with Andrew Wade (Georgetown, Texas/Georgetown) assisting.
Unfortunately for the 'Cats, Lauber had only just begun. He rattled off two more goals in the first half, and then tacked on another in the 59th minute with a penalty kick, to put the Badgers up 4-1.
The 'Cats were not done, though, as Brett Grobe (Stanington, Conn./St. Stephen's) scored his first goal of the season by heading in a corner kick by Steven Jedlinski (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) to bring the 'Cats within 4-2. Jedlinski leads the team with five assists.
Wisconsin concluded the scoring with one more goal late in the second half. With Lauber on the bench, Van Sicklen stepped up to make the final score 5-2.
The Wildcats travel to Madison next week for the Big Ten Tournament. Seedings will be announced early next week.
