Men's Tennis Opens Season at ITA Pre-Qualifier

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's tennis team opened up the 2001-02 season by competing in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Pre-Qualifier even in Stone Mountain, Ga. this past weekend.
In singles action, senior Jamie Sahara made it to Saturday's fourth round before being defeated by David Lowenthal of Wake Forest, 7-6, 6-0. Sahara defeated players from New Mexico, St. Bonaventure and Mississippi to reach the fourth round.
Freshman Tom Hanus was able to advance to the third round of play before dropping to Joao Menano of Georgia Tech, 7-6.
In doubles play the tandums of Josh Axler and Hanus, and Ryan Edlefson and Joost Hol made it to the third round of action before losing to teams from UNC Greensboro and San Diego, respectively.
NU's Jackie Jenkins, currently ranked 84th in the ITA rankings, will travel to Stone Mountain, Ga. later this week to compete in the ITA All-American Main Draw.
