DeKalb, Ill. - Men's soccer battled the gusting winds in DeKalb, Ill., as they tied Northern Illinois, 2-2, in a nonconference match-up Sunday afternoon.
NU gained the early advantage when Dan Doman (Bloomfield Hiils, Mich./Detroit Country Day) scored off a John Dahlquist (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) corner kick early in the second half. The goal was Doman's second of the season, and the assist gave Dahlquist his first collegiate points.
The Huskies charged right back with a goal in the 62nd minute, then went ahead after another goal in the 73rd minute.
The 'Cats kept fighting and evened the score at 2 three minutes later. Victor Boni (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale) scored his first goal as a Wildcat, assisted by Steven Jedlinski (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) and Doman. Jedlinski leads the squad with four assists on the year.
Adam Grossman (Potomac, Md./Churchill) was in goal for the 'Cats throughout regulation, tallying two saves. Ryan Pederson (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North) took over the goaltending duties in overtime, making four stops to preserve the tie.
NU dominated the first half of play, earning 12 corners. They finished the match with 18 corners to NIU's seven.
The Wildcats host Wisconsin on Thu., Nov. 1 at Lakeside Field. This is the final home game of the 2001 season.
