Men's Golf Finishes Fourth at The Tillinghast

SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Sophomore Tom Johnson (Fair Oaks, Calif./Del Campo) fired a two-under-par 68 in the final round of The Tillinghast to finish third overall and three strokes behind co-medalists Geoff Lound and James Lepp, both from Illinois. Johnson finished one-over-par for the tournament.
As a team, the Wildcats finished in a two-way tie for fourth place with fellow Big Ten foe Penn State. Northwestern completed the two-day tournament 30-over-par, 13 strokes behind the Fighting Illini, the tourney champion.
Placing behind Illinois and in front of the Wildcats were second-place Minnesota (+20) and third-place Texas-Arlington (+29).
Senior Chris Thayer (Richmond, Va./Godwin), who shot a team-best 70 on Monday, finished with a 75 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 145, five-over-par. That was good enough for an 11th-place showing.
Northwestern's other finishers were Scott Harrington (Portland, Ore./Jesuit), T.C. Ford (Covington, La./Mandeville) and Bjorn Widerstedt (Vasteras, Sweden/Flagler College). All three finished 13-over-par and tied for 47th place.
