EVANSTON, Ill. - Junior center Tavaras Hardy (Joliet, Ill./Providence) was named Co-Player of the Week by the Big Ten Conference on December 31. He shares the honor with Charlie Bell of Michigan State. Hardy is the first Northwestern men's basketball player to earn Big Ten honors this season.
Hardy scored 20 points on 10-of-15 shooting, grabbed four rebounds, and had two assists, two blocked shots and two steals as the Wildcats defeated No. 16 USC, 63-61, on December 27. It was the third win in a row for the Wildcats, who are now 7-5 overall this season and have surpassed their win total for all of last season (5-25).
Hardy, who was named to the All-Tournament Team at the San Juan (P.R.) Shootout prior to the USC game, is averaging 15.5 points per game in the last four NU contests.
