Women's Volleyball Falls to Creighton, 3-1

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern University women's volleyball team fell to Creighton, 3-1, in action Thursday night at the Wahine Challenge in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Wildcats split the first two games with the Bluejays, losing the first 15-13 but winning the second, 16-14. Creighton took over from there, though, winning the third game 15-5 and the fourth 15-10.
Northwestern fell to 0-5, while Creighton improved to 4-0.
Northwestern was down, 11-8, in Game 1 before rallying to win five straight points. The Bluejays answered by taking the final four points, three on kills by Melissa Walsh, to gain the victory. In Game 2, the Wildcats staved off five game points to overcome a 14-11 deficit and win, 16-14.
The teams battled to a 5-5 tie midway through the third game, before Creighton grabbed control and won the last 10 points for an easy victory. In Game 4, the Bluejays jumped out to a 7-2 lead and never looked back. NU got as close as three points (10-7) before falling, 15-10.
Carmen Burbach (Columbus, Neb./Scotus Central Catholic) led the way with 18 kills, and hit .240, while Lindsay Pavlik (Laguna Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) led the Wildcats with 11 kills and 27 digs. Erika Lange (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) had 12 kills.
Northwestern had no answer for Creighton's Walsh, though. She had 24 kills (hitting .400) and 18 digs.
Northwestern will be back in action today against Oregon, and will conclude play at the Wahine Challenge Sunday against the host, No. 6 Hawaii.
