Women's Soccer Set to Host Wildcat Classic

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's soccer team will host the Wildcat Classic Friday and Sunday at Lakeside Field. Montana, Detroit and fellow Big Ten member Minnesota roll into town for a pair of doubleheaders. The first one starts Friday, with Minnesota meeting Montana at 2 p.m. and Northwestern and Detroit following at 4 p.m. On Sunday, Minnesota takes on Detroit beginning at 10 a.m., then Northwestern meets Montana at noon.

Information on each team is as follows:

NORTHWESTERN
The Wildcats enter the Wildcat Classic with an 0-3 record. They dropped their first game, 3-0, to Kansas, then traveled to Minneapolis where they lost to Iowa State (3-1) and Kentucky (5-1). Kristen Pearce leads the Wildcats with two goals on the season. Goalkeeper Erin Ekeberg has 19 saves for the first three games and a 0.63 save percentage, which ranks her third in the Big Ten this season. The Wildcats open Big Ten action next weekend, as they travel to Indiana on Friday and Purdue on Sunday.

DETROIT MERCY
The Titans enter the Wildcat Classic with a 2-3 record. On Wednesday, they rolled past Bowling Green, 6-3. Their other victory came against Toledo (3-2), while they dropped matches against Notre Dame (6-0), Western Michigan (3-2) and Michigan State (3-0). Leading scorers for the Titans are Tanya Tiselj and Gwen Kilfoy, each with three goals on the season. Stacey Westbrook has two goals and one assist.

MONTANA
The Grizzlies enter the Wildcat Classic with a 3-1 record. In recent action, the Grizzlies began defense of their Big Sky championship with a 5-0 victory over Portland State on September 2. Heather Olson recorded her first ever collegiate hat trick in the win. Olson has scored five goals in the Grizzlies' first four games to give her 22 on her career. Montana dropped a 4-2 decision to nationally-ranked Brigham Young on August 31, after recording victories in their first two games against Gonzaga (2-0) and Utah (2-1). For the fourth-straight season, Montana was picked by the league coaches to win the Big Sky Conference.

MINNESOTA
The Gophers enter the Wildcat Classic with a 2-1 record. After being shut out by #5 Nebraska in their opener, 4-0, the Gophers battled back to win consecutive shutouts at home against Iowa State (1-0) and Kentucky (1-0). Laurie Seidl and Juli Montgomery have scored the two goals for Minnesota while the assists came from Keely Dinse and Allyson Brodie. Goalkeeper Julie Eibensteiner has 23 saves in the three contests with an .852 save percentage. She was named co-Big Ten player of the Week for September 5, along with Indiana's Kelly Kram. The Wildcat Classic marks the first time this season that the Gophers have hit the road.
