Blackmon, Emmerich Named Football Captains

EVANSTON, Ill. - Harold Blackmon, a fifth-year defensive back, and Conrad Emmerich, a fifth-year defensive end, will lead the Northwestern University football team as captains in 2000. The duo was voted the honor by their teammates.

HAROLD BLACKMON (Chicago, Ill./Leo) was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection last year. He tied for second in the Big Ten with a school-record 17 pass breakups, and is already the school's career record-holder in that category. Blackmon also intercepted two passes, including one for a 75-yard touchdown at Indiana. He recorded 48 tackles. Last year, Blackmon was the recipient of Northwestern's Marcel Price Award, given for enthusiasm and dedication to the NU football program.

CONRAD EMMERICH (Foley, Minn./Foley) played in all 11 games last year, moving from middle linebacker to defensive end in midseason. He finished sixth on the team with 65 tackles, including 35 solo. Emmerich also had two tackles-for-loss and a pair of pass breakups, and recovered a fumble against Minnesota. For his career, he has 162 tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. In 1998, Emmerich was the recipient of Northwestern's Thomas Airth Spirit Award.
