EVANSTON, Ill. - For the second time in as many years, Northwestern University men's golfer Luke Donald missed the cut at the prestigious British Open, considered by the PGA as one of the four majors.
The Wildcat senior-to-be fired a second-round 75 on The Old Course at St. Andrews, giving him a total of 148 through the first two rounds and leaving him 4-over-par. That was not enough to keep him in the field for the weekend, as the cut was made at even par.
Donald was able to share the distinction of low amateur in the tournament. After earning that title outright last year, he shares the honor with fellow Englishman Philip Rowe this year. The reigning U.S. amateur champion, David Gossett, was one stroke behind them at 5-over-par.
The leader at the British Open through two rounds is Tiger Woods, at 11-under-par.
Donald was the 1999 NCAA champion and finished this year as the top-rated golfer according to the MasterCard Collegiate Rankings.
