NORMAN, OKLA. - For the second time in three days, Oregon State was able to score late and defeat Northwestern, this time eliminating the Wildcats from regional competition with a 4-0 win. Northwestern ends the season with a 30-26 record after its third-place finish in the Norman, Okla. regional.
Much like Thursday's opening-round game between the two teams, in which OSU won 1-0 in ten innings, NU's Lauren Schwendimann and Oregon State's Tarrah Beyster were able to keep the opposition off the scoreboard. The Wildcats loaded the bases in the first on three, two-out singles, but Beyster was able to induce a pop up to get out of the inning. Oregon State had runners on second and third in the third, but Schwendimann got Beyster to look at strike three to escape unscathed. The Beavers finally broke through in the sixth, getting four consecutive singles with one out to open up a 3-0 lead. Northwestern refused to quit and loaded the bases with two outs before OSU relief pitcher Crystal Draper put out the fire.
Schwendimann, who pitched 27.2 of a possible 30 innings in the team's four games in the tournament, was the hard-luck loser.
