EVANSTON, ILL. - The Northwestern softball team rallied from four runs down to defeat Loyola-Chicago, 7-4, at Anderson Field. Northwestern improves to 24-20 while Loyola drops to 21-18.
Freshman pitcher Lauren Schwendimann (Tustin, Calif.) fanned eight in the first three innings, but Loyola managed to find holes when they put the bat on the ball. A walk and stolen base gave the Ramblers a runner on second with two outs in the first. They capitalized, getting a base hit up the middle that hit the second base bag, allowing the runner to score. The Ramblers added three more in the third, two coming on a home run by Yasmin Kahn. After leaving five runners on base in the first three innings, Northwestern broke through in the fourth. Brett Nakabayashi (Irvine, Calif.) lined a two-out, two-run single into leftcenter to put the Wildcats on the board. A home run by Alyson Schulz (San Diego, Calif.) an inning later gave NU the lead and Schwendimann made it stand up, allowing only one hit after the third inning to improve to 14-9.
Northwestern plays its final road games of the season on Thursday when they travel to DePaul for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
