Men's Tennis Knocks Off Penn State, 4-3

Brad Erickson won a three-set match at No. 1 singles to clinch a 4-3 victory over Penn State, Sunday at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. Playing their final match at home this season, the 53rd-ranked Wildcats improve to 8-9 overall and 2-5 in the Big Ten. The Lions suffered their sixth-consecutive Big Ten loss, falling to 9-8 overall and 0-6 in the Big Ten.
The Cats got off to a quick start, winning two of the three doubles matches to take the first point. Brad Erickson and Joost Hol defeated Jamie Gresh and Steven Van Der Westhuyzen, 8-4 at No. 1. Jamie Sahara and Josh Axler won at No. 3, defeating PSU's Matt Nielsen and Brad Nudell to clinch the point.
Erickson defeated Van Der Westhuyzen in three sets (6-7, 6-1, 6-3) at No. 1 to take the match for the Wildcats. The Wildcats also got wins at Nos. 2 and 6. Sophomore Joost Hol came from behind to defeat PSUs Jeff Martini, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. Jamie Sahara was a three-set victor over Damon Accardi, defeating him 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.
The Cats are back in action on Saturday, April 15 at Minnesota. Match time is not yet determined.
