Men's Tennis Falls To Ohio State, 4-3

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's tennis team went to the wire with Ohio State (10-6, 4-1) Saturday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center, but could not hold on as they fell to the 44th-ranked Buckeyes, 4-3. The 'Cats fall to 7-9 overall and 1-5 in the Big Ten.

The doubles point proved to be the difference, as OSU won two of three matches to gain the advantage and the deciding point. NU got a win at No. 1 as Brad Erickson and Joost Hol defeated OSU's Andrew Carlson and Jon Scale, 8-3.

In singles, NU got wins at Nos. 4, 5, and 6. Josh Axler was a three-set victor over OSU's Derek DeFalco, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. Russell Bennett defeated Bob Wellstein in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) at No. 5 and Jamie Sahara was the three-set winner over OSU's Jon Scale, 5-7, 6-3, 7-5, in a tough match at No. 6.

Northwestern will be back in action on Sunday, March 9, hosting Penn State. The match is slated for noon at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. In case of inclement weather, the match will be held inside at the Johnson Tennis Center.
