Lauren Schwendimann Named Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week

EVANSTON, ILL. - Freshman Lauren Schwendimann (Tustin, Calif./Foothill) was named Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week today for her performances against Wisconsin and Minnesota during the weekend. Schwendimann was dominant in her two appearances, allowing only one unearned run in 17 innings. Against the Badgers on Friday, Schwendimann went 10 innings allowing one run on eight hits with 12 strikeouts. She followed it up with a four-hit shutout of Minnesota on Sunday.

Schwendimann has won four of her last five decisions to raise her season record to 6-7. She leads the team with a 2.32 ERA and ranks second in the Big Ten in strikeouts per 7 innings, recording 106 punchouts in 87.2 innings (8.46 K/7 inn.).

Northwestern has won six of its last nine games, including victories over No. 1 Washington and No. 9 Cal.-Fullerton, and is 12-15 overall (3-1 Big Ten). The Wildcats return to action Tuesday, traveling to DeKalb for a doubleheader with Northern Illinois at 3 p.m.
