Football Team Concludes Spring Practice

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern Wildcat football team completed their spring practice today with a controlled scrimmage at Ryan Field. The second-team offense and first-team defense defeated the first-team offense and second-team defense, 20-14.

Zak Kustok, the projected starter at quarterback, highlighted the offensive effort. He attempted 34 passes, completing 21 for 165 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for a score. Senior wide receiver Teddy Johnson caught 10 balls for 102 yards and a 22-yard touchdown from Kustok. Backup running back Kevin Lawrence ran for two touchdowns, one from two yards, the other from three yards out.

The NU defensive effort was led by senior linebacker Napoleon Harris. Harris recorded an interception, one sack and a pass break up. Fellow linebacker Billy Silva broke up two passes and recovered a fumble to set up a score. Senior cornerback Harold Blackmon also broke up three passes.

The Wildcats open the 2000 schedule on August 31 at Ryan Field against Northern Illinois.
