EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern head women's soccer coach Marcia McDermott has announced the signing of four high school seniors to National Letters of Intent.

"I am very excited about the prospects for this class," said McDermott. "They are talented, certainly, but equally important is that they have tremendous work ethics and great passion for the game. This is a group that will fit our team well, will be fun to watch and one that I will enjoy coaching."

The four student-athletes will begin competing in the fall of 2000.

MOLLY GREENE (5-7, defender, Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) -- Greene is a three-year member of the Illinois state ODP (Olympic Development Program) team. She helped the Buffalo Grove Lightning to the Illinois club championship her sophomore and junior years. Last season, she tallied 17 goals in only 10 games to lead her high school team. Greene was selected to the all-area and all-Lake Shore teams.
"Molly is the real deal," says McDermott. "She is a great athlete and a great presence on the field. She will impact our defense immediately."

KRISTEN PEARCE (5-6, forward, Morrison, Colo./Bear Creek) -- Pearce is a member of the Colorado Rush under-18 program and helped her club team to the state finals in 1997 and 1999. In high school, she was an all-conference selection and the team's offensive MVP last year.
McDermott calls Pearce "a tremendous athlete" and says "she has the potential to really develop at the college level."

LINDSAY STAME (5-7, forward/midfield, Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) -- Stame is a four-year member of the Illinois ODP team and is an offensive force who can play up front or in the midfield. She has led her high school team in scoring in each of her three seasons and is a three-time all-conference selection. Last year, she was the leading scorer on her Eurosoccer club, leading them to an undefeated season and a pair of tournament championships.
"Lindsay can play anywhere on the field," says McDermott. "She'll play an important role on this team in the fall."

JILLIAN TREZZA (5-5, forward/midfield, Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) -- Trezza is a four-year participant in the ODP program in the Eastern New York Region. She enters her senior season with 84 career points and is the school record holder for most assists in a season (14). In three seasons, Trezza has netted 27 goals to go with 30 assists. Trezza plays for the FC Delco club, helping them to an undefeated record, a regional championship and a No. 3 national ranking.
"I am excited about Jillian's future," states McDermott. "As much as she has accomplished already, she has only just begun to realize her potential. She will work hard to get to the next level."
