Softball Team Opens 2000 Season Friday

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Northwestern softball team begins the 2000 season tomorrow at the Louisville Slugger Tournament in Tampa, Fla. The three-day, eight team tournament features defending national champion and top-ranked UCLA as well as several other traditional powerhouses.

Northwestern opens pool play tomorrow against Florida Atlantic (0-0) at 1 p.m. before returning to the diamond tomorrow night for an evening clash with Florida International (1-1). Northwestern concludes round-robin play on Saturday morning against Georgia before beginning bracket play later in the afternoon. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, Feb. 6 with the championship and consolation games at 2:00 p.m.
