Men's Swimming Sinks Competition in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -
The men's swimming team swam against Sacred Heart University and the University of Puerto Rico on December 19 after training in Puerto Rico for a week. The `Cats walked away with victories in each of the 11 events, winning the meet with 167.50 points.
Leading the way for Northwestern were double-winners Mike Shue (Ft. Myers, Fla./Ft. Myers) and Tony Swanson (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids). Shue took victories in the 800 freestyle and 400 freestyle while Swanson punched in first in the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle. He also swam the second leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay, which included Steve Steketee, Adam Kennedy and Jason Merchant (Pearl City, Hawaii/Punahou).
Other winners for the Wildcats were Steketee (200 freestyle), Nick Barnes (50 freestyle), Merchant (100 butterfly), Kellan O'Connor (100 backstroke), Eugene Kim (100 breaststroke) and the 200 medley relay consisting of O'Connor, Kim, Kennedy and Barnes.
Northwestern is back in action in the States when they travel to Michigan State on January 13 for a dual meet. The meet starts at 2 p.m. central time.
