EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) - Ben Johnson scored 22 points and Northwestern jumped out to an early lead on the way to an 83-56 romp over St. Peter's on Wednesday night.
Johnson hit two 3-pointers early as the Wildcats (4-3) opened up a 22-9 lead over the Peacocks (1-7).
"Offensively, I think this was my best game," said Johnson, who was 7-of-12 from the field. "I felt comfortable out there, and let myself get into the flow of the game."
The Wildcats led by 13 points at halftime, and then Winston Blake went to work. Despite playing on a sore right foot, Blake scored 10 straight points to put his team in control.
Blake finished with 18 points.
Jitim Young added 11 points and a team-high six rebounds for Northwestern, while centers Aaron Jennings and Tavaras Hardy combined for 16 points after struggling in a Sunday loss at LaSalle.
Kamal McQueen (14 points) and Rodney Rogers (13) were the only two players in double figures for St. Peter's.
