EVANSTON, Ill. - On Saturday, Northwestern will hold its second annual "Ricky Byrdsong Foundation Day" when the Wildcat men's basketball team takes on Mississippi Valley State University. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Byrdsong's wife, Sherialyn, will be featured at halftime of the contest, and she will also be on hand in the main lobby of Welsh-Ryan Arena after the game to talk to people about the mission of the Ricky Byrdsong Foundation.
A reminder that tickets for Saturday's game can be purchased through the Foundation. Northwestern donated 1,000 tickets to the cause, which the Foundation is selling at the regular price of $10 apiece, with all the proceeds going directly to the Foundation. Tickets may be purchased individually or in blocks. For more information or to purchase tickets through the Foundation, call 1-877-BRDSONG (273-7664).
The Ricky Byrdsong Foundation -- which was developed after his untimely death in the summer of 1999 -- was established to carry on Ricky's work with youth and in community service addressing the issues of hate and violence in society, especially among young people. The mission of the Ricky Byrdsong Foundation is to provide opportunities that broaden perspective, build character, and instill a sense of purpose.
