EVANSTON, Ill. -
Northwestern women's soccer player Brooke Bell (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) was named to the All-Big Ten second team defense on Thursday. Bell was moved to defense this season after three seasons at forward to help control the backfield with her speed and ability to make things happen.
This marks the first time Bell has earned All-Big Ten honors in her four years with the Wildcats. Though Northwestern fell in 12 games this year, Bell contributed greatly to the team, helping with many defensive stops and gaining two assists on the year. She started all 17 games and attempted 29 shots.
For her career, Bell played in 59 games, starting 37 of them. She started every game her senior and junior years and all but two games as a sophomore. She earned the team's offensive MVP in the 1998 and 1999 seasons, and was Wildcat Rookie of the Year in 1997. She was named to the Soccer Buzz's All-Great Lakes Region third team in 1998, when the team made it to the NCAA Sweet 16. Bell ends her career with 20 goals, 11 assists and 51 points.
Bell has been named Academic All-Big Ten twice. She plans to graduate in June with a degree in speech pathology.
