EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's volleyball team lost to Purdue, 3-0 in action Friday night. The match was the final at home for the Wildcats this season, who fell to 5-23 (2-16 Big Ten).

Game scores were 15-7, 15-12, 15-14.

The Wildcats fell despite a stellar night from Carmen Burbach. The senior, playing her last match at Welsh-Ryan Arena, led the team with 19 kills and hit .318 for the night while also collecting a team-high 12 digs.

Purdue took control early in Game 1, jumping out to a 5-1 lead. NU cut it to 7-5, then the teams traded points before the Boilermakers reeled off the final six points of the game to win.

In Game 2, the teams went back and forth most of the way, tying four times up to 6-6. Purdue took a 9-8 lead, then the teams traded 15 sideouts before the Boilers won three straight points for a 12-8 advantage. Northwestern got no closer than two points after that.

Game 3 was another tight affair, but it looked like Northwestern might take the victory as they turned a 7-6 deficit into a 11-7 lead. The teams traded four points, then Purdue won four straight points to tie the game at 13-13. Northwestern took a 14-13 lead on a block by Adriana Ruhl and Burbach, but Purdue came right back with two straight points to grab a 15-14 edge. The Wildcats fended off five match points, but could not get the equalizing point before Joanna Lowry finally ended it with her team-leading 19th kill.

Erika Lange had a nice night for the Wildcats, hitting .229 with 13 kills.

Purdue -- which improved to 12-17, 4-13 Big Ten) -- Lowry was aided by Julie Doud (18 kills), Maegan Peterson (13) and Eryn Leach (10). The Boilers hit .329 for the night and had 71 digs to NU's 53.

Northwestern will be on the road next weekend to close out the season. The Wildcats are at Michigan State on Friday and Michigan on Saturday. Both matches will start at 6 p.m. central.
