EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern volleyball team fell to Iowa Saturday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Despite 13 kills and three blocks by Erika Lange (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg), the Wildcats fell to 4-18 overall and 1-11 in the Big Ten.
Game scores were 15-8, 15-2, 16-14.
The two teams battled back and forth in the first game Saturday night, tying at four different junctures before anyone could take a decisive lead. A kill by Iowa's Sara Meyermann gave the Hawkeyes (11-9, 7-5 Big Ten) their biggest lead at 11-8, before they scored the next four points to win the game.
Game 2 was all Iowa, as the Hawkeyes rolled to a 15-2 victory. Iowa held NU to .069 hitting while hitting at a .556 clip. A Cassie McKnight (San Marcos, Calif./San Marcos) service ace gave NU its first point of the game, but Iowa scored 12 points before an attack error gave NU its only other point of the match.
Northwestern came back from an 8-7 deficit to take a 13-11 lead in Game 3, but was unable to hold on. Iowa would tied the match 14 on a Renee Hill kill, then took the remaining two points to win the match, 3-0.
The Wildcats are back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 1, when they host No. 6 Wisconsin. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
