
Men's Soccer Loses to Valparaiso, 2-1

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's soccer team dropped its 14th game of the season, 4-1, to the Valparaiso Crusaders at Lakeside Field in Evanston, Ill. In a rough game that saw four yellow cards, including one to the Valpo bench, the Crusaders were outshot 19-10.
Despite being outshot by nine, Crusader goalkeeper, Mike Serhel proved to be Valpo's best defense making nine saves despite a bombardment of Northwestern shots in the second half.
Valpo started the scoring 22 minutes into the game when Oliver Sanders knocked down a Ben Olson cross and fired it past NU goalkeeper Chris Berlin (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette) from 15 yards out.
Oliver couldn't stay away from the NU goal, as six minutes later he headed in a Jon Flugstad throw in, making the score 2-0.
Northwestern got on the board in the 53rd minute of play when Paul Elkins (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) took a pass from Paul Van Huysen (Portage, Mich./Monsignor Hackett) and fired it to the low left corner beating Serhel. It was Elkins first goal of the season.
