EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's soccer team dropped its 12th game of the season, 2-1, at the University of Illinois-Chicago under the lights at UIC. All three goals were scored in an eight-minute span late in the second half.
UIC started the scoring in the 81st minute when Joe Morelli kicked in a cross by Erik Lukin. Just one minute and nine seconds later, however, Ian Herrick (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) headed in a corner kick from Steven Jedlinski (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) to tie the score at 1-1. It was Herrick's second goal of the season.
But Steve Collins broke the tie and gave UIC the win six and a half minutes later, as he scored on a diving header that skidded off the crossbar and into the goal.
NU goalkeeper, Chris Berlin (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette) had seven saves in the loss, upping his season total to 62.
