Women's Swim Team Gains A Split vs. SEC

EVANSTON, Ill. - The 11th-ranked Northwestern women?s swimming and diving team gained a split in its double dual meet with Southeastern Conference powers Auburn and Tennessee Saturday afternoon at the Norris Aquatics Center. The Wildcats defeated the 19th-ranked Lady Volunteers, 210-143, but fell to the sixth-ranked Tigers, 193-159. Auburn also defeated Tennessee, 229-124, to sweep the day.
In Saturday?s morning session, the ?Cats swept the relays, winning both the 400 medley relay (4:10.94) and the 200 free relay (1:43.42) with times that bested the NCAA?s B standard. In the 200-meter breaststroke, senior Amy Balcerzak won with an NCAA qualifying time of 2:27.70, while Susannah Sample won the 200-meter backstroke and gained the NCAA?s B standard in 2:14.58.
In the evening session, NU?s 200 medley relay team won with an NCAA B standard time of 1:54.69, while Balcerzak earned her second A standard of the day by winning the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:09.13. Courtney Allen won the 50-meter freestyle in 25.60, an NCAA B standard, while Tashy Bohm was victorious in the 100-meter backstroke (1:02.81).
The other Northwestern swimmer to achieve an NCAA B standards was Rachel Johnson in the 200-meter butterfly (2:16.10).
The women will be at Notre Dame next Friday, meeting the Fighting Irish and Rice in another double dual meet that begins at 5:30 p.m. in South Bend.
