MACOMB, Ill. - The Northwestern men's soccer team dropped its 1999 road opener this afternoon, 2-1, to Western Illinois in Macomb.
Western Illinois tallied first on a goal by Troy Markin, but Northwestern junior Jun Kim (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) pulled the 'Cats even with an unassisted goal in the 56th minute. However, Markin answered eight minutes later with the gamewinner for the Leathernecks.
Senior goalkeeper Matt Keeler (Portage, Mich./Portage Northern) had eight saves, but couldn't keep the Leathernecks from posting the victory. Kim led the team with five shots in the match.
The Wildcats will meet Ohio State Sunday in Columbus in its first official Big Ten match of the 1999 season. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
