EVANSTON, Ill. -- Seventeen regular season home men's games and 14 home womens games highlight the 1999-2000 Northwestern mens and womens basketball schedules announced today by the Northwestern athletic department.
Under the direction of third-year head coach Kevin O'Neill, the NU men's basketball team returns three starters and eight letterwinners from a team that qualified for postseason play for the third time in the schools history in 1998-99. NU opens the regular season Nov. 23 against Chicago State at Welsh-Ryan Arena and starts the Big Ten portion of the schedule at Iowa on Jan. 5. NU also travels to St. Louis, Mo., on Nov. 26-28 to take part in the Hoop and Quill Classic. The Hoop and Quill features Nebraska, Mississippi State, Rutgers, Evansville, Murray State, Valparaiso and Southern Mississippi. The Cats return home on Dec. 1 to play host to the Florida State Seminoles in the inaugural Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
? 1999-2000 Women's Basketball Schedule
The women's basketball team begins a new era under first-year head coach June Olkowski. She welcomes back four returning starters and fifth-year senior forward Kristina Divjak, who sat out last season with an injury. Divjak was the Big Tens leading scorer in 1997-98. The Wildcats open the season Nov. 19 against Northern Illinois and start the Big Ten season Jan. 2 at Penn State. NU will once again host the Roger L.White Invitational on Dec. 3-4, featuring New Hampshire, Miami of Ohio, and Princeton.
