Steve Lepore Named To Junior World Championship Team

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern sophomore forward Steve Lepore (North Olmsted, Ohio/St. Edward) has been named a member of the 1999 USA Basketball Men's Junior World Championship Team after five days of training at Arizona State University. Lepore was chosen from 16 finalists who attended the training camp.

The 12-member team will compete at the 1999 FIBA Men's Junior World Championships in Portugal on July 15-25.

Lepore was a member fo the gold medal winning 1998 USA Basketball Men's Junior World Championship Team that competed in the COPABA Junior World Championship Qualifying Tournament in Santiago, Dominican Republic and qualified the U.S. for this year's FIBA Junior World Championship with a 6-0 record. Lepore started all six games and averaged 12.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

As a freshman last season for the Wildcats, Lepore started 15 games and averaged 7.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
