Summary: Northwestern earned its biggest victory of the season with a 4-0 shutout at Wisconsin-Milwaukee this afternoon. The Panthers, fresh off a 2-1 overtime upset of then-No. 8 Nebraska, is ranked No. 15 in the most recent Soccer America poll and No. 18 in the current NSCAA/Umbro poll. At 2-0-1, the Wildcats remain undefeated on the season, while UWM drops to 1-1.
NU opened up a big lead early by scoring three goals between the 19th and 37th minutes. Sophomore forward Brooke Bell extended her team scoring lead with two goals, her second and third on the season. The first came on a 20-footer from the top of the penalty box and the second came on a header off a corner kick from senior defender Kristen Palmer. The Wildcats have scored off Palmer corners in two consecutive games.
Senior forward Lisa Byington added a third goal on a breakaway, and Palmer parlayed a goalkeeper miscue into a second half goal for the Wildcats.
