EVANSTON, Ill. - Senior outside hitter Jenna Wrobel recorded a match-high 15 kills to lead Michigan State to a 15-7, 15-8, 15-4 victory over Northwestern this evening in Big Ten volleyball action. The No. 21-ranked Spartans opened the match with an immediate 6-1 lead, but the Wildcats battled back to keep the contest close at 9-6. Senior middle blocker Melissa Doan had a team-best six kills for Northwestern in the first game.

The second game proved to be a fight for every point. NU came out with a 4-0 lead, but the Spartans responded with some excellent play at the net, including seven kills from Wrobel and three blocks by sophomore middle blocker Sarah Gustin.

The Michigan State offense continued to roll into the third game as the Spartans jumped out to an 11-1 lead that they would never relinquish.

Doan matched her season-high of 13 kills which she also had at Baylor earlier in the season. Senior outside hitter Jessica Holloway picked up nine digs for the Wildcats.

Northwestern will take to the road for the first time since Sept. 12 when it travels to Illinois (Oct. 9, 7p.m.) and Purdue next weekend.
