EVANSTON, Ill. - One day after gaining a National Soccer Coaches Association of America No. 19 ranking, Northwestern handily defeated the DePaul Blue Demons at Lakeside Field, 6-1. The game was marked by consistent play from the Wildcats, relentless pressure on the Blue Demon net and successful finishing.
NU poured 26 shots toward the Blue Demon net, and two Wildcat players, freshman midfielder Sarah Bodine (St. Louis, Mo./Visitation Academy) and senior midfielder Sarah Joehl (Kenilworth, Ill./New Trier), each contributed two goals. Sophomore forward Brooke Bell (Wheaton, Ill/Wheaton-Warrenville) contributed a goal and an assist to maintain her team scoring lead with four goals and 10 points overall.
The Wildcats begin Big Ten play this weekend at Lakeside Field, facing two undefeated teams Michigan State (4-0) Friday at 4 p.m. and No. 10 Michigan (4-0) Sunday at 1 p.m.
