Women's Soccer Defeats Minnesota 2-1
6/21/1999 12:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer
Sept. 27, 1998
Summary: A 1-1 deadlock was broken in the 80th minute when Northwestern senior defender Kristen Palmer (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina) scored on a penalty kick to give the 11th-ranked Wildcats a 2-1 win over Minnesota at the St. Paul Campus Soccer Field. The game marked NUs eighth-consecutive victory and its fourth-straight Big Ten win.
After gaining the lead on a 24th minute goal by junior forward Christie Molitor (Kalamazoo, Mich./Portage Central), NU gave up a goal in the 53rd minute when Nicole Lee converted a pass from Erin Holland. The pace of the game picked up late when the teams traded scoring opportunities, but Northwestern got the break it needed when Palmer got behind the Gopher defense and was taken down in the penalty box. She then put her penalty shot just inside the right post beyond the hands of Julie Eibensteiner.
