EVANSTON, ILL. - The Northwestern softball team improved to 18-15 by sweeping a doubleheader from Bradley this afternoon in Evanston. The Wildcats won the opener, 3-1, and captured the nightcap, 8-5. Northwestern has won three consecutive games and nine of their last 10.
In the opener, Northwestern tallied single runs in each of the first four innings, and received another strong pitching performance from sophomore Brooke Siebel (13-10) to earn the victory. Siebel went the distance, allowing only one run on three hits and striking out five. At the plate, Siebel was two-for-three with an RBI. Junior Tami Jones added a pair of hits, including her team-leading seventh double, and scored a run.
Northwestern's bats came to life in game two, scoring one in the second and six in the third inning to open a 7-1 lead. The Wildcats opened the third with six consecutive hits. Jones and Siebel each had RBI-singles before Lindsey Prezell drove in two more runs with another single. Freshman Gretchen Barnes capped the inning with her second home run of the year, a two-run blast to left-center field. Siebel finished the Wildcat scoring with a solo home run in the fourth, giving them an 8-1 lead. Freshman Kelly Campbell pitched a complete game to gain her first collegiate victory.
Northwestern opens the Big Ten season this weekend, travelling to Indiana for a three-game series
