Volleyball Wins Chicagoland Classic

CHICAGO - Kitty Owen had 13 kills and six block assists to lead the Northwestern volleyball team to a 15-4, 15-12, 15-12 victory over Loyola-Chicago in Wednesday night's championship game of the adidas Chicagoland Classic, held at DePaul University. NU is now 2-0 on the year while Loyola dropped to 1-1.
Owen was named MVP of the tournament after collecting 21 kills and 10 blocks off the bench in the two matches. Setter Liz Renius, who had 53 assists and 10 digs in the win over Loyola, also earned all-tournament honors.
NU came out blazing against the Ramblers, hitting .441 while holding Loyola to a .000 hitting percentage in game one. The Wildcat offense continues to sparkle with 24 kills in game two, while the NU defense held Loyola to a .052 hitting percentage for the match.
Carmen Burbach led NU with 15 kills and 13 digs. Sharon Fisk added 12 kills, 10 digs and four blocks while Jennifer Zagorski tallied three aces in the win.
The Wildcats travel to Texas this weekend. NU faces Southern Illinois and Texas on Saturday afternoon in the Longhorn Invitational, followed by a nonconference matchup in Waco, Texas, against Baylor.
