EVANSTON, Ill. - The sixth-ranked Wisconsin Badgers put a halt to Northwestern's seven-match win streak with a 15-2, 15-11, 15-12 victory over the Wildcats on Saturday night. Wisconsin ran its attack effectively in the first game, posting 20 kills on 30 attempts. The Badgers rarely let Northwestern set up its offense and limited the 'Cats to only eight kills on 31 attempts.
Northwestern came alive in the second game, playing the Badgers evenly, but with the score tied at 9-9, Wisconsin regained the lead thanks to a hitting and serving error by Northwestern. The Badgers took the second game, 15-11.
A similar scenario occurred in the third game, with momentum switching sides just as quickly as the ball. The score was knotted 8-8 at one point, but again Wisconsin kept its poise and dominated at the net with eight total blocks in the final game. Northwestern did not stop any Badger attacks.
Wisconsin setter Colleen Neels dished out 49 assists, while senior setter Liz Renius for Northwestern finished with 43.
Senior outside hitter Jessica Holloway and sophomore outside hitter Carmen Burbach each had double-doubles. Holloway tallied 10 kills and 12 digs, while Burbach registered 14 kills and 10 digs.
