EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's tennis team (7-7, 2-2 Big Ten) moved up 18 spots to No. 34 in the national rankings, released today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The Wildcat women (9-4, 3-1 Big Ten) stayed at No. 23, the highest ranking of any Big Ten team.

Individually, senior captain Doug Bohaboy (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) received a No. 69 singles ranking. He is 22-12 overall this season while playing at the No. 1 spot and has won five of his last seven matches, including a big win over No. 12 Ignacio Hirigoyen of SMU on March 19. He nearly upset James Blake of Harvard, the top-ranked player in the country, in a 7-6 (6), 6-7 (6), 2-6 battle on March 20, and took No. 8-ranked Oliver Freelove of Illinois to three sets on March 6.

On the womens side, senior captain Laura Guignon (St. Louis, Mo./St. Josephs Academy) received a No. 89 singles ranking. She has alternated between the No. 2 and No. 3 singles spots in the lineup, and has totaled a 17-8 record on the season, including a perfect 7-0 mark at the No. 3 spot.

Guignon and junior Katherine Nasser (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) moved up four spots in the doubles ranking to No. 27. As NUs No. 1 tandem, the two have combined for an 11-5 record. They are 3-1 in Big Ten competition.

The womens team plays at home this weekend against Penn State on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. The Wildcats take on Ohio State on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Both matches are scheduled to be held at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. Inclement weather would force competition to be moved indoors to the Johnson Tennis Center.

The Wildcat men travel to Ohio State on Friday for a 2 p.m. match versus the Buckeyes. On Sunday, Coach Paul Torricellis squad will be at Penn State for a 10 a.m. start.
