Softball Drops Final Three Games at Troy Cox Classic

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern softball team lost their final three games as they wrapped up play at the Troy Cox Classic in Las Cruces, N.M. Freshman centerfielder Erin Jancic paced the Wildcat offense, getting a pair of hits in each game. For the tournament, Jancic batted .643 (9-14) with 6 RBIs. She currently leads the team with a .414 batting average.
Northwestern pounded out 10 hits against New Mexico, but it was not enough as the Lobos prevailed, 9-5 in nine innings. Junior Mikie Chambers had three hits and a stolen base for the 'Cats and Jancic was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Wildcats tried to rebound against Penn State. They led 6-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, but could not hold the lead. Junior Tami Jones had two hits, including her third double of the season, and drove in a run.
Northwestern scored three runs in the first inning against New Mexico State, but once again they could not hold on. The Aggies rallied for four runs in the third and three more in the seventh and then survived a late Wildcat rally. Northwestern loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the seventh but could not keep the rally going. Jancic and senior Jill Nesbitt each had a pair of hits to pace the Wildcat attack.
Northwestern returns to action Fri., Mar. 5 against Oregon at the Easton Showcase Tournament in Fullerton, Calif.
