AUSTIN, Texas - Northwestern senior Doug Bohaboy (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) worked his way into the singles main draw at the ITA Men's All-American Championships being held at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center in Austin, Texas. On Thursday, he won his first round match, a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Pepe Caballero of New Mexico. He faces Notre Dame's Ryan Sachire, a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Shuon Madden of Texas A&M, Friday morning.
The Wildcats' other participant in the main draw, senior Marc Silva (Telford, Pa./Pennridge) was ousted by Cory Guy of UC Santa Barbara, 6-1, 6-4. Silva will move on to the consolation singles round on Friday. Bohaboy earned his way into the main draw after advancing to the Round of 16 of the qualifier. He started off the tournament with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over TCU's Martin Jirak. He then bested William Farah of Michigan, 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-3.
The ITA Men's All-American Championships is the nation's largest college tennis tournament as 348 singles players and 176 doubles teams look to claim the second leg of the ITA Collegiate Grand Slam. The first leg was the ITA National Clay Court Championships held in Baltimore, Md., Sept. 24-27.
