Men's Tennis Upsets Michigan, 4-3

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The No. 7 seed Northwestern mens tennis team upset second-seeded Michigan, 4-3, to advance to the semifinals of the Big Ten Championships, held at the University of Michigans Varsity Tennis Center.
Michigan earned the first point of the match, winning two of the three doubles matches. NUs top doubles team of senior Doug Bohaboy (Palo Alto, Calif.) and sophomore Brad Erickson (Eugene, Ore.) won the first match, 8-3, but Michigan won the second match and rallied to take the decisive third match in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-4).
Northwestern stormed back in the singles bracket, winning the final four matches to earn the team victory. Bohaboy avenged his only Big Ten dual loss of the season and defeated Matt Wright in a three-set thriller (1-6, 6-3, 6-4) at No. 1. Junior Martin Bengtsson (Stockholm, Sweden) followed suit at No. 2, rallying for a 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 win. Sophomore Derrick Nguyen (Darnestown, Md.) won in straight sets and freshman Joost Hol (Newport Beach, Calif.) won the match for NU with a another straight sets win at No. 4.
The victory advanced Northwestern to the semifinals where it will face either Purdue or Michigan State tomorrow.
