Men's Swimming Sends Two to NCAA Meet

EVANSTON, Ill. - Senior Brian Walters (Wyndmoor, Pa./William Penn Charter) and sophomore Steve Steketee (Golden, Colo./Golden) will compete for Northwestern at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, to be held March 18-20 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Walters will swim the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke. He finished second in the 100 with a time of 47.93 at the Big Ten Championships and was the Conference champion in the 200 with a 1:43.55. Both times are Northwestern school records. It will be Walters' first trip to the NCAA meet.

Steketee will swim in the 100 and 200 freestyle. He finished fifth at the Big Ten Championships in the 100 with a time of 44.44 and second in the 200 with a 1:37.31. Steketee was the Big Ten Champion in the 200 freestyle in 1998. This will mark his second consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships.

Northwestern will be sending two swimmers to the NCAA meet for the first time since 1997, when Scott Smale and Rob Rausch qualified.
