Men's Basketball Tops California All-Stars, 85-73

EVANSTON, Ill. - Preseason All-American Evan Eschmeyer scored 25 points and 16 rebounds to help Northwestern defeat the California All-Stars, 85-73, in an exhibition game Thursday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

The Wildcats led by as many as 22 points before the All-Stars made a second half comeback behind three three-pointers by Chris Dade with just over four minutes remaining in the game. Dade's three-pointer with 2:50 remaining in the contest cut Northwestern's lead to four, 72-68, but the Wildcats regained control.

The Wildcats extended their lead with three-pointers by freshman point guard David Newman (Des Moines, Iowa/ Herbert Hoover) and sophomore shooting guard Sean Wink.

Freshman forward Tavaras Hardy (Joliet, Ill./ Providence) had 16 points and nine rebounds in his first start for Northwestern. The high-scorer for the California All-Stars was Robin Kirskey with 16 points.

Northwestern plays an exhibition game on Nov. 11 in Evanston against a Russian all-star team.
