EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Gary Saunders and Rimas Kaukenas each scored 13 points in the second half Saturday and Seton Hall limited Northwestern to just two field goals over the final 11:29 en route to a 63-52 victory.
The victory was the fifth in a row for Seton Hall (7-3), while Northwestern (5-2) had a five-game winning streak snapped.
Seton Hall trailed 44-42 after Evan Eschmeyer's three-point play with 11:29 remaining. But the Pirates scored the next seven points as Shaheen Holloway hit a free throw and Kaukenas hit two 3-pointers to open a 49-44 lead.
Tavaras Hardy hit a jumper to pull the Wildcats within 49-46, but that would be the last Northwestern field goal until Hardy hit another jumper with 49 seconds remaining and the game decided.
Seton Hall outscored the Wildcats 14-4 down the stretch, with Saunders getting eight of his 17 points and 6-foot-6 Duane Jordan shutting down Eschmeyer, the Wildcats' 6-11 center, who finished with 22 points but scored just one over the final 11:29.
Kaukenas finished with 15 points for Seton Hall while Jordan added 12.
Seton Hall took a 22-12 lead behind the 3-point shooting of Holloway and the inside play of Jordan. But the Wildcats outscored Seton Hall 15-4 over the last six minutes of the first half to take a 33-30 halftime lead.
