EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern head men's basketbll coach Kevin O'Neill today announced the signing of Jason Burke (6-6 1/2, 187 lbs., Plano, Texas/Plano East) to a national letter of intent to begin playing for the Wildcats in the 1999-2000 season.

"Jason can play possibly four positions, primarily as a backup point guard but also at the wings and maybe the 'four' slot," said O'Neill. "He gives us good versatility and will obviously help us on defense. We think he's a good compliment to the guys we already have as well as the other freshmen who will join us in the fall."

Burke led Plano East to a 24-10 record and a district championship this year. He was named all-district, second-team all-region and is an academic all-state honoree. Burke averaged 10.6 points, six rebounds and five assists per game this season, shooting 58 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free throw line.
