EVANSTON, Ill. - Two members of Northwestern's men's swimming program have been honored by the Illinois Swimming Association, in a vote of the collegiate and university coaches of Illinois.
Senior Brian Walters (Wyndmoor, Pa./Williams Penn Charter) was named Swimmer of the Year among University Division Men. Walters earned all-America honors at the NCAA Championships in the 200 backstroke. His fourth-place time of 1:42.70 set an ISA University Division state record time, and gave him the highest NCAA finish for a Northwestern swimmer since 1966. In 1999 Walters set school record times in the 100 back and 200 back, and won the Big Ten championship in the 200 back.
Northwestern coach Bob Groseth was named Coach of the Year among University Division men's coaches. The Northwestern men finished sixth in the Big Ten and 28th at the NCAA Championships, for their highest national finish since 1973.
