EVANSTON, Ill. - The Wildcats held their first scrimmage of the year on Sat., Aug. 22, at Camp Kenosha. Some highlights from the controlled scrimmage:
For the offense ...
Sophomore quarterback Gavin Hoffman was 8-of-11 passing for 98 yards, including a 45-yard completion to Aaron Burrell to open the scrimmage. Hoffman led two touchdown drives on the afternoon.
Sophomore running back Damien Anderson rushed 11 times for 48 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior running back Sean Bennett rushed three times for seven yards and caught three passes for 27 yards.
Senior wide receiver D'Wayne Bates caught two passes for 20 yards.
For the defense ...
The defense as a whole recorded eight sacks on Saturday, which would have accounted for 37 yards in lost yardage.
Senior linebacker Barry Gardner, senior cornerback Gerald Conoway, junior cornerback Harold Blackmon and freshman defensive back Chasda Martin recorded interceptions.
The 1998 season opener is set for Sat., Sept. 5, at Ryan Field against UNLV. Kickoff is 11:30 a.m. Tickets for that and all other Wildcat football games can be purchased through the Wildcat ticket office at (847) 491-CATS.
